AI Doesn't Know Your Business Just Because It's AI 😭

One of the quickest ways to get a bad AI answer is to let AI fill in the blanks.

If I'm asking AI to work on something for my business, ministry, client, project or organization, I don't want it making assumptions about how we operate.

I want it working from my actual information.

That's why I give AI a source of truth.

This is Day 5 of my 30 Days of AI Hacks I Use to Run My Business.

💡 THE GOAL: Give AI reliable information to work from and tell it not to guess when the answer isn't there.

How to Give AI a Source of Truth

Your source of truth is simply the information AI should treat as authoritative for the task you're giving it.

That could be:

  • A company document

  • Meeting notes

  • An SOP

  • Your website copy

  • A project brief

  • Brand guidelines

  • Policies or procedures

  • Client information

  • Research you've already completed

  • A spreadsheet or report

Instead of letting AI assume what you mean, you're essentially saying:

“Use THIS information to answer me.”

I want you to use the information I provide as the source of truth for this task.Review the materials before responding. Base your answer on the information provided rather than making assumptions about my business, organization, brand, audience, processes, or preferences. If the information I provide does not answer something you need to know, do not guess. Clearly identify what information is missing and ask me for clarification. Before completing the task:Identify the most relevant information from my source material.Note any conflicting or missing information.Complete the task using the provided information as your primary context. My task:[INSERT TASK]Source material:[PASTE OR ATTACH INFORMATION]

💚 My Favorite Add-On

Add this before AI starts:

Before you begin, tell me what you know from my source material versus what you would otherwise have to assume.

THIS is where it gets good. 👀

Now you can see the difference between:

What AI actually knows from your information

and

What AI would've filled in on its own.

Why Giving AI a Source of Truth Matters

Giving AI a source of truth can help you get responses that are more relevant to your actual situation.

Instead of:

Generic AI answer → You fix everything

We're aiming for:

Your information → AI works from it → You review the result

You should still verify important information, but you're giving AI a much better starting point.

💡 ARMINA TIP

Don't assume AI knows something just because you've mentioned it before somewhere.

For important work, make the relevant source material clear.

And if you're using AI for different businesses, clients or projects, be especially careful about which information belongs to which task.

Context matters.

The Goal

We're moving from:

“AI, figure out what I mean.”

to:

“AI, here is the information. Work from THIS.”

That one adjustment can completely change the quality of your output.
